Invasion of perennial sagebrush steppe by shallow-rooted exotic cheatgrass reduces stable forms of soil carbon in a warmer but not cooler ecoregion

This study explores the hidden impact of cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) on soil organic carbon in sagebrush landscapes across the western U.S. By comparing invaded and un-invaded areas in different climates, the research uncovers critical clues about how invasive species may threaten long-term carbon storage and soil health.
