SUMMARY:Rivers: Campbell Valley - Beaver Coexistence 1
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers will protect trees\, install anchor posts for future beaver dams\, and fix fencing to keep the cattle where they belong. Join us on Saturday and/or Sunday! \nJust 20 miles north of Fort Collins exists one of the most important mountains-to-plains ecological transition zones in the Front Range – The Laramie Foothills Conservation Area. However\, in the early 1900’s\, Campbell Creek was used to transport irrigation water while the North Poudre Irrigation Canal was being completed. The elevation of the creek bottom was down cut by approximately 40 feet\, causing the elevation of the valley’s tributaries to drop commensurately. This massive change in the watershed caused significant head-cutting and down-cutting of every tributary in the valley\, resulting in a loss of an estimated 120 million cubic feet of soil. Now\, erosion gullies range from 5 to 30 feet deep and run up to 1\,000 feet across the land and ever increasing leakage from the canal continues to threaten the valley’s stability. \nWRV has been working since 2010 to change this valley’s course from one of continued deterioration toward a recovery. Come\, see the progress\, and help get things ready for the new inhabitants. \n  \nRegister HERE
